How it behaves in the disposer

Shelled nuts are soft tissue with plenty of water inside, so there is little resistance to the grind. One grinding stage is enough, and nothing is left behind in the trap. The kernels are oily but soft and grind well. The shells do not: they are woody and go in the food waste bin. With that one precaution it becomes an ordinary scrap. The sound tells you when it is done: it changes and drops as the chamber empties.
