Regulations

Disposers are provided for by Italian law.

This is not a grey area: the rule explicitly names appliances that reduce food scraps to fine particles. Here is what it says, in plain words.

What the law says

Art. 107, paragraph 3, Legislative Decree 152/2006.

The Italian environmental code (Legislative Decree 152/2006 as amended) generally forbids putting waste into the sewer, but sets out a dedicated exception for food scraps.

  • Organic waste from food scraps is allowed when treated with appliances that reduce it to fine particles: which is exactly what a disposer does.
  • More grinding stages and more power produce finer particles: that is the technical reason why the grind gets finer as you move up the range.
  • The rule requires the retailer to notify the water service operator that an appliance has been installed: when we supply and install, in Milan and its province, we send that notification; for purchases with shipping it is the buyer's responsibility, and we state this on the invoice.

What we take care of

The paperwork is not your problem.

  1. The feasibility check

Before fitting we check the condition of your plumbing and of your address: it is part of the survey, not something we leave in your hands.

  2. Notifying the operator

When we supply and install, in Milan and its province, we do it. For purchases with shipping it is the buyer's responsibility, and we state this on the invoice.

  3. Registering the warranty

Within 60 days of purchase, for the extra years of warranty. We take care of that too.

Frequently asked questions

In short.

Are food waste disposers legal in Italy?
Yes. Art. 107, paragraph 3, of Legislative Decree 152/2006 allows organic waste from food scraps into the sewer when it has been treated with appliances that reduce it to fine particles.
Do I have to notify anyone?
If you buy and install with us, no: we notify the operator ourselves. For purchases with shipping the notification is your responsibility: we state this on the invoice, and in the order confirmation we tell you which operator to contact based on the address you gave us.
Who checks that it can be fitted in my home?
We do, during the survey that comes before installation, along with the technical checks under the sink.
