Notification to the utility
What the law asks for, put in writing.
The law hands out two tasks: the assessment goes to the water utility, the notification of the installation goes to the dealer. Here is how we handle it and what you are left with.
What the law provides
Article 107(3), Legislative Decree 152/2006.
The law generally forbids putting waste into the sewer and makes an exception for food waste ground into fine particles. In doing so it assigns two distinct tasks to two different parties.
“… subject to the ascertainment, by the operator of the integrated water service, that a treatment system exists, the operator also providing adequate information to the public including the map of the areas served by such systems. The installation of the appliances is notified by the dealer to the water service operator, which monitors their spread across the territory.” (unofficial translation)
Article 107(3), Legislative Decree 152/2006, as replaced by article 9-quater of Decree-Law 172/2008.
- Who assesses: the operator of the integrated water service. It is the operator that ascertains the existence of the treatment system and informs the public about the areas served.
- Who notifies: the dealer. The installation of the appliance is notified to the operator, which monitors how widespread the appliances are.
- What the law does not say: it does not provide for a permit to be requested before buying, nor for a document to be shown to the operator. It provides for an assessment and a notification.

How we handle it
Two routes, depending on how you come to us.
Installation in Milan and its province
First we check the conditions for your address, then we install, then we notify the installation to the operator in charge: MM S.p.A. in Milan, Gruppo CAP in the other municipalities of the Metropolitan City. The notification and its receipt go into the dossier we hand over to you.
Sale with shipping
Outside the area where we install, we do not install the appliance ourselves and cannot be certain of the place and manner of installation: for purchases with shipping, the notification to the water service operator is the buyer's responsibility. This is stated expressly on the invoice, and in the order confirmation we tell you which operator to contact based on the address you gave us.
What you receive
The installation dossier.
A digital dossier with what we checked and what we did. It is not there to convince anyone: it is there for you, if one day somebody asks about the installation.
- Model and serial number of the appliance, with the warranty registration.
- The essential photographs of the under-sink cabinet, before and after the job.
- The result of the commissioning test and the instructions for use.
- The declaration of conformity under Ministerial Decree 37/2008, where the job requires one.
- A copy of the notification to the utility and its receipt.
- Collection of the old appliance under the WEEE rules, where there is an appliance to collect.
What the dossier is not
The dossier documents what we checked and what we did. It is not a public authorisation and it does not replace the decisions of the water utility.
Let's talk about your kitchen.
