Cold water, a little at a time, mixed loads.Food scraps only. Never fats or oils, never anything that isn't food.

How it behaves in the disposer

Crackers: starch is the delicate part, because in water it swells and turns sticky. One grinding stage is enough, and nothing is left behind in the trap. Dry and crumbly, they break down at once in water. Just remove any wrapper left from the packet first. With that one precaution it becomes an ordinary scrap. The sound tells you when it is done: it changes and drops as the chamber empties.
