Can I put tea bags in the disposer?

A food waste disposer, also known as a garbage disposal, grinds scraps right in the sink: here is what happens with tea bags.

Tea bags

No, not with any model.

The bag isn't food. Loose tea is fine.

How it behaves in the disposer

Tea bags are not food, and a food waste disposer grinds food: everything else is a foreign body. The grind would never be fine enough to flow: it would stop at the first bend of the drain. The paper or mesh of the bag does not grind and can wrap around. Just open it: the tea goes in the sink, the bag wherever the packaging says. The bag isn't food. Loose tea is fine. The right place is the waste stream it belongs to, not the sink, which does not dispose of it.
