Can I put paper, plastic or napkins in the disposer?

How it behaves in the disposer

Anything that isn't food has no business in the sink, because it neither grinds nor breaks down. It would never reach fine particles in the chamber: it would sit in the trap, or further along where the pipe narrows. The most common accidents are small ones: a cap, a rubber band, a teaspoon dropped in the drain. Looking into the chamber before switching on avoids almost every problem. Food scraps only: no paper, plastic, labels, rubber bands, glass, metal. The right place is the waste stream it belongs to, not the sink, which does not dispose of it.
