Can I put grape stems in the disposer?

A food waste disposer, also known as a garbage disposal, grinds scraps right in the sink: here is what happens with grape stems.

Grape stems

No, not with any model.

They're woody: they go in the food waste bin.

How it behaves in the disposer

Grape stems are too solid for the chamber: they bounce around and come out whole. The grind would never be fine enough to flow: it would stop at the first bend of the drain. Grape stems are woody and branched: they get stuck instead of grinding. Separate them from the grapes, which are fine. They're woody: they go in the food waste bin. The place for this is the organic waste bin, not the sink.
