How it behaves in the disposer

Onion skins are light films that float and slip past the first pass of the grind. This needs a top-range model: the piece is picked up again and again until it is small enough to flow. The dry skin is not hard, quite the opposite: it is so light that it slips around and does not get caught in the chamber. Mixed with other scraps, it grinds. A few at a time and always with other scraps: on their own they slip through unground. If you produce a lot of it, it is worth checking your water utility’s rules.
