How it behaves in the disposer

Artichoke leaves and stems: the point is long fibre, the hardest test for a disposer, because it wraps instead of breaking. Only the top-range models get particles this fine: with the basic ones the residue stops earlier. The outer leaves are leathery and fibrous: the toughest of all vegetable scraps. A few at a time; if you trim a lot of artichokes, most of it goes in the food waste bin. A few at a time: large amounts are not recommended. If you produce a lot of it, it is worth checking your water utility’s rules.
